Boardman tips Cavendish to blaze a trail for 2012

23.03.09

Mark Cavendish's combustible personality is key to why he is blazing a trail as road racing's quickest finisher, according to Chris Boardman.

Fresh from a phenomenal victory in the Milan-San Remo one-day classic, Cavendish is in Pruszkow for the track cycling World Championships this week despite insisting his velodrome days were behind him after he failed to win a medal in Beijing.

British Cycling technical director Boardman believes Cavendish's passion and desire could help him to Olympic success in London 2012. "He's a very emotional character," said Boardman. "He's a really nice person but he's very volatile. But that's what you need as a sprinter."
