O'Connell has a risky dig at Lions coach
23 Mar 2009Paul O'Connell gambled with his bid to captain the Lions to South Africa this summer by criticising Wales coach Warren Gatland after helping Ireland land a first Grand Slam since 1948 by winning 17-15 in Cardiff.
O'Connell had a dig at Gatland, who tried to wind Ireland up last week.
"Jose Mourinho used to do a lot of it with Chelsea, taking the pressure off his players," said the lock. "You need a big ego to do that which Warren Gatland seems to have."
However, Gatland is in charge of the Lions forwards so O'Connell's comments won't help his cause.

That cuts both ways, Gatland should have considered his Lions forwards respect before making harmless but ultimately proved to be foolish comments.
