Tiger is cool over £2m row

26.03.09

Tiger Woods has side-stepped the row over his £2million fee for playing in November's Australian Masters.

Taxpayers in Victoria will pay half of that via the government's support for the Melbourne event and that has not gone down well in light of the credit crunch and with the state still reeling from the recent bush fires.

Ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which begins at the Bay Hill Golf Club in Florida today, the world No1 said: "Most of the guys get appearance fees to play around the world. Obviously I know there's some controversy behind it, but I'm really looking forward to getting down there and playing and competing."
