Dagenham's warning for the Olympics

Olympic chiefs have been urged to pay special attention to power supplies for 2012 in the aftermath of Dagenham's floodlight failure.

The east London club, located just 10 miles from the Olympic Stadium, were forced to abandon their clash with Brentford on Monday after electricity company EDF Energy suffered a problem at a substation.

EDF are also official suppliers to the London Games and will support a purpose-built new electrical infrastructure at the Olympic Park.

Dagenham's Steve Thompson said EDF would not guarantee power in the future and had urged the club to buy a back-up generator. "I only hope Lord Coe has considered that," said Thompson.

A London 2012 spokesperson claimed a back-up plan was already in place should supplies fail during the Games.
