Tiger stalking the leaders as Monty dazzles

27.03.09

Tiger Woods is three shots off the lead after a first-round 68 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando.

The world No1, in only his third tournament since knee surgery, carded four consecutive birdies on the back nine and is tied in 10th place. Playing partner Padraig Harrington finished on level par after three birdies and three bogeys.

Jason Gore leads at five under, one clear of Tim Herron and Jeff Overton.

Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie is in second place after a first-round five-under 67 at the Andalucia Open - his 500th European Tour event. Fellow Scotsman Chris Doak tops the leaderboard after a bogey-free 66.

Montgomerie, who has finished in the top-10 an impresive 182 times, said: "It was a nostalgic day, thinking about all sorts of things."
