Command and conquer: Andy Scott added former army commando Alasdair Lane to his backroom staff last summer

Brentford soldier on with help from the SAS

Andy Scott insists Brentford's SAS fitness training regime will ensure there is no danger of their promotion push running out of gas.

The Bees boss added former army commando Alasdair Lane to his backroom staff last summer to bolster his squad's stamina levels and believes his gruelling sessions will pay off as the club aim to seal the League Two title.

The club are six points clear at the top of the table and could take a giant stride towards League One if they beat third-placed Gillingham at home tomorrow.

Scott said: "Alasdair coming in has been fantastic for us - he's had a big impact. He's a former SAS soldier so he knows all about how to maintain fitness and he's introduced some interesting new techniques.

"It takes time for people outside the game to recognise how they can adapt to a football environment but Alasdair has been very open to change and we have been open to him as well.

"We are now one of the strongest and fittest sides in the league and Alasdair is integral to that.

"Hopefully it will pay off as the season draws to a close."
