Iceland star Eidur Gudjohnsen hopes Scotland's confidence has suffered a blow in the wake of their defeat to Holland.

George Burley's men had been hopeful of nicking a point in Amsterdam on Saturday night which would have kickstarted their World Cup qualifying campaign.

But they found themselves outclassed by the third best team in the world as goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie, as well as Dirk Kuyt's penalty, ensured a comfortable night for the hosts.

Scotland know the pressure is now on to take maximum points from Wednesday's clash with Iceland in a bid to bolster their hopes of finishing second in Group Nine and potentially claiming a play-off spot.

"I'm sure they will want to make up for a bad result," said Gudjohnsen after arriving at Glasgow Airport yesterday.

"But there is no shame in going to Holland and losing - it's just the manner of how you lose and maybe their confidence is knocked a little bit.
"But I'm sure they are looking forward to the game on Wednesday."

Iceland sit joint second with Scotland, albeit with better goal difference, and Gudjohnsen added: "I don't think when you play for Iceland there is ever really a must-win game.

"But, if you look at the table then points-wise, yes, if we want to challenge for second place it probably is a must-win game."

Iceland have lost all five previous encounters with the Scots and Gudjohnsen knows they face another difficult night in the south side of Glasgow.

"We always have trouble playing against Scotland," he said.

"They have always beaten us. It will be a very difficult game."

But he believes there is one thing in Iceland's favour heading into a vitally important match.
"I'm sure there is more pressure on them than there is on us," he said.

"The expectations of the Scottish team are much higher than the Icelandic team."
