Back of the net: David Hunt scored from a free-kick against Gillingham

Brentford pay the penalty but David Hunt is still full of belief

Brentford's David Hunt says his side are a step closer to the League Two title despite dropping two points following a 1-1 home draw with Gillingham.

Hunt's free-kick put Brentford in front before Simeon Jackson levelled with a penalty just before the hour.

Midfielder Hunt said: "The lads were disappointed, which I think is positive for the team. We are five points clear, we are top of the table and we have to have confidence. It was one of those games, we will take a point - if they had come here and won it would be a different story but we are still as you were with one less game to go.

"If we can learn from it we will improve. Morale in the camp is great, we are top of the league, teams have to catch us. We will go to Bradford and try to get three points up there next."

Dagenham still have hopes for the play-offs after a 2-1 win over Macclesfield.

Paul Benson came off the bench for the final 23 minutes to equalise with his second touch and Matt Ritchie struck late on as he drilled into an unguarded net.

Manager John Still said: "What we have achieved in the two years since coming up from the Conference never ceases to amaze me."

Barnet manager Ian Hendon was dismayed by the 1-0 home loss to Darlington, which leaves his side just six points off the relegation places. He said: "This is our first home defeat in a while but it was a bitter one to take."
