Nicklas Bendtner is sidelined by knee injury
30 Mar 2009Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner looks set to miss the Gunners Premier League game against Manchester City on Saturday after suffering a knee injury.
The 21-year-old lasted only 30 minutes of Denmark's 3-0 victory over Malta in last weekend's World Cup qualifier.
“There is a high probability that we must send him home,” said Soren Kaalund, the Dane's team doctor.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger's anger at Bendtner's injury should be tempered by Emmanuel Adebayor's goalscoring return to action.
The 25-year-old, who has been out for six weeks with a hamstring problem, netted the only goal as Togo beat Cameroon 1-0.

Bendtner is an important player for Arsenal but he has had more than his fair share of embarrassing misses in front of goal. However, his enthusiasm and determination are evident for all to see and he will be misses. No one however, Ben included, should underestimate the importance of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Adebayor's return couldn't have been timelier: he is a powerful player with pace and punch and will certainly tear apart many defences. Arsenal have greatly benefitted from Adebayor when he is fully fit, playing him as a lone striker upfront in difficult away games (remember the epic AC Milan C League away game?) . He will only get better as he returns to fitness and will surely oil the cogwheels of Arsenal's attack.
With Eduardo, Walcott (hopefully soon), Vela, Eboue, and others clicking upfront and Diaby and Co creating space in enemy territory, goals are bound to come.

This is typical for Arsenal. Just when we get on a run our players get injured in an international break. Bendtner has been the lynchpin in our team going forward in the last few games and to replace him with Adebayor, who has made no effort whatsoever when he's been fit this season (except for the one time he ran for a ball against Tottenham and managed to injure himself-possibly because he wasn't used to running) is going to see a dramatic dip in form. Bendtner sees space and movement that seemingly no one else does.
