Six Nations Friday fixture retained

2 Apr 2009

Wales will play France on a Friday night at the Millennium Stadium in next year's Six Nations.

Tournament organisers have decided to repeat their experiment after the success of this season's groundbreaking fixture.

France's thrilling 21-16 victory over Wales in Paris drew the largest television audience of the championship in the host country and the second-highest average audience of all 15 games in the tournament. Next season's Friday game is on 26 February while the following day, Italy will host Scotland and England play Grand Slam champions Ireland.

The Irish will begin the defence of their Six Nations title at home to Italy on 6 February, while England will start with a clash against Wales at Twickenham.

The following week Martin Johnson's men will play their one Sunday fixture when they go to Rome for the Valentine's Day clash with Italy. The tournament will climax in another Super Saturday', with Wales hosting Italy, Ireland against Scotland and England travelling to France for an evening kick-off.
