Jermaine Jenas still upbeat after late defeat
Ian Whittell6 Apr 2009
Jermaine Jenas has insisted that Tottenham's season will not end with a whimper despite Saturday's "sickening" loss at Blackburn Rovers.
A debatable first-half Robbie Keane penalty looked to have secured Harry Redknapp's side the three points until a disastrous last 12 minutes saw Wilson Palacios dismissed before goals from Benni McCarthy and Andre Ooijer won the contest for Rovers.
However, Jenas believes Tottenham fans should take heart from the team's performance - they were easily the more accomplished side despite the final score - and insists Spurs will not repeat last season's poor finish.
This time last year, under boss Juande Ramos, Spurs won just two of their last nine Premier League matches as the season drifted away but Jenas (above) is confident this year will be different.
He said: "It is pretty sickening to lose to be honest with you.
"We have been playing really well lately and we battled and dominated the whole game.
"In battling terms and football terms we definitely dictated everything so to still lose is a tough pill to swallow."

Spurs have undeniably improved under Harry Redknapp, but what nags at me is the fact that I never feel that a win is nailed-on, whoever they are playing.
With seven games to go (four at home), I get the feeling that we shall be lucky to get another four points. It's just a feeling, and in no way am I being negative, but we shall see.

Rob,
We totally dominated the game playing some fine, dashing football, light years ahead of Blackburn. Dunn cheated to get Palacios sent off in my view and I knw we still should have held on but until the last 10 mins we played really well and Jenas was sharp and always in the action. We should definately keep him at the club!

"We were truly woeful against a poor Blackburn." That's the very opposite of the truth. Spurs played well almost throughout and were dominant until the very end, as anyone who saw the match can confirm. How you judge Tottenham, RobH, would have Spurs supporters as little more than self-loathing, petty-minded and envious of others, an outlook designed to create the permanent dissatisfaction that lobbies for an ever-changing playing staff. It's consistency that makes headway, not coming and going and frequent rearrangement.

Even by Spuds standards that was a truly humiliating surrender.
Still not to worry, you have the pleasure of the the better half of N. London competing in the Champions League to look forward to this week.
And for the record, 'The New Invincibles' are 17 unbeaten.
I hear the Spurs defence are being called 'The Invisibles'(fnarr fnarr).

Jenas,as an experienced footballer, should realise that football is not entirely about putting on a fine display but rather about scoring goals and getting results. This is where Spurs failed against Blackburn. Unlike Blackburn, they lacked that fighting and aggressive spirit if not concentration right till the end. That they lost Palacios is a lame excuse. With their experience, they should have been able to hold on for ten more minutes and maintain their 1-0 lead. That would have meant 3 more valuable poits to take us to Europe..It is a great opportunity missed.

We were truly woeful against a poor Blackburn. It seems that we have made White Hart Lane a difficult place to come to, but we are not nearly as strong away from home. In order to challenge the top four next season we need to sell Jenas, Huddlestone, Bentley & Bent to finance some fresh replacements. I dont think these are bad players, but they have become stale at the club. We could still do with an extra left back, wide left player & a forward. My main worry is that I judge Tottenham by seeing how many of our players would regularly get into the first team at the top four clubs & in reality only 3 or 4 of them would. Until we redress this the best we can hope for next season is 5th place.
