James Foster has been handed the chance to win back his England Test place.
The Essex wicket-keeper has not played for his country in five-day cricket since the tour of India in 2001 but his inclusion in the 25-man Performance Squad for this summer proves he has forced his way into the selectors' thinking.
Neither of the other two glovemen in the squad - Matt Prior and Tim Ambrose - have managed to dispel on-going doubts about the position.
Lancashire fast bowler Sajid Mahmood, who has not played for England since the 2007 World Cup, has been included along with Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel, disciplined on fitness grounds this winter, and Robert Key, who is tipped to captain the team in the World Twenty20 in June.
Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid is the only uncapped member of the party.
