Harlequins call for Fijian to step up for key role

14.04.09

Fly-half Waisea Luveniyali has been given the daunting task of guiding Harlequins into the Guinness Premiership play-offs.

The 24-year-old Fiji international has been pressed into action after fellow No10s Nick Evans and Chris Malone were injured in the 6-5 Heineken Cup quarter-final defeat to Leinster.

Evans hurt his knee and Malone suffered a badly damaged hamstring and both will have scans this week to determine how long they will be sidelined for.

Quins director of rugby Dean Richards said: "We will not be getting any short-term cover at No10 and I am very confident Waisea can handle the pressure and I have told him this is a fantastic opportunity. It's been hard for Waisea to break into the side, but he is an outstanding player."
