Joy for Choi Ho-sung as late charge puts him top

17.04.09

Korean Choi Ho-sung had four birdies over the back nine to establish a two-stroke lead after a second-round 67 at the Volvo China Open.

Some inspired putting in Beijing left Choi on six-under, ahead of Thailand's Chapchai Nirat and Austria's Markus Brier who share second.

Ireland's Paul McGinley fired a sparkling 67 to climb to three-under alongside Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in a tie for fourth.

“I three-putted the first hole and then had to work hard for the rest of my round,” said Choi.

England's Nick Dougherty started the day joint second but almost missed the cut as he fired a 79 — dropping six shots on the back nine — to finish on three over.
