Giving it up: Trevor Immelman failed to retain his title at Augusta National

Trevor Immelman began life as a former Masters champion in positive fashion at the Verizon Heritage tournament in South Carolina.

The South African failed to retain his title at Augusta National last week but did put some disappointing early-season form behind him to finish in a tie for 20th.

At Harbour Town Golf Links yesterday Immelman shot a five-under 66 to lie third - two shots behind overnight leader Alex Cejka of Germany with American Lee Janzen standing between them.

"Coming up the last few holes Sunday it was emotional, because I knew I wasn't winning again," he said. "But the way I look at it now, I can close the chapter on 2008 and try to take all that experience and put it to the test from now on."
