Michael Ballack says he's happy to settle for second best

Michael Ballack has claimed Chelsea were happy to settle for second place in the Premier League as they prepare to face FA Cup Final opponents Everton.

If Chelsea beat David Moyes's team and Manchester United lose to Portsmouth, Guus Hiddink's men will close the gap on the Old Trafford club to one point.

Liverpool's 4-4 draw with Arsenal last night has boosted the Blues' title hopes but Ballack believes their best chance of glory will come in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The Germany midfielder said: "We will try everything, we have to win our games and second place is what we're trying for.

"Maybe we can win one or two trophies. If you look at the last few games, we've played good and come back from difficult situations, which has given us a lot of confidence.

"We have showed that we are focused on the League until the end. We know it's important to get on top. The other two teams have been a little lucky but that's what you need."

Ballack will be desperate to figure against Everton at Wembley next month after missing Chelsea's 2007 FA Cup win against Manchester United, as well as being forced to sit out the 2002 World Cup Final due to suspension.

The Blues' semi-final win over Arsenal last weekend owed much to winger Florent Malouda, who scored the equaliser after Theo Walcott had given the Gunners the lead.

The Frenchman's Stamford Bridge career had looked certain to end this summer after a lacklustre first half of the campaign under former boss Luiz Felipe Scolari but Malouda is now playing some of his best football since joining the club almost two years ago.

Malouda said: "I still see my future at Chelsea. Everyone is talking about my future but I will stay here for a long, long time.

"We can do great things in the remainder of the season, especially in the Champions League. Everyone is thinking about the final we lost against United in Moscow last year.

"Our target is to reach the final again and win it. We know it won't be easy to beat Barcelona in the semi-finals but we have to be ready for that if we are to deserve to win the competition."

Skipper John Terry also believes he is in great condition to help the club win the Treble this season. Terry has already played 42 matches this term but is not worried about feeling the pace as Chelsea try to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

The England captain said: "I have picked up a couple of knocks the last few years but all players do. The games are coming thick and fast and you're going to pick up knocks.

"But I am feeling good and fresh and doing a lot of work in the gym to try and stay fit. I am in top shape at the moment."
