Ipswich sacked manager Jim Magilton today after he failed to guide the club into the Championship play-offs.
Magilton was appointed in 2006 and, after being handed £12million to spend on players by new owner Marcus Evans, was expected to challenge for promotion this season.
Evans said: “Jim has a passion for the club but we have not made the progress both he and I expected.”
