Behind bars: Scott Harrison spent five weeks in prison in Spain after being accused of attempting to steal a car

Police arrest Scott Harrison after flight to Spain

24 Apr 2009

Former world boxing champion Scott Harrison has been arrested as he arrived in Spain to face assault allegations dating back three years.

The 31-year-old was detained by police as he touched down at Malaga Airport last night on a flight from Glasgow and is now expected to stand trial in Spain on the charges.

The former WBO featherweight champion spent five weeks behind bars in Spain after being accused of attempting to steal a car and assaulting two people, including a police officer. He was then released on bail to return to the UK but a judge reportedly issued a fresh arrest order over the claims last month.

Harrison arrived in Malaga last night with his father Peter, mother Agnes and girlfriend Stacey Gardner.

A spokeswoman for Spain's National Police said: “I can confirm that we arrested him yesterday.”

She added that it is likely Harrison will face trial soon.
