Bee-line for League One: manager Andy Scott (third from left) and his Brentford players celebrate promotion and the League Two title after securing both at Darlington

Football: Brentford skipper Alan Bennett led his team to the League Two championship title at Darlington - and then admitted his own future is in doubt.

The centre-half, on loan from Reading, has been inspirational for Andy Scott's side this season but is out of contract in the summer and undecided over whether to stay at Griffin Park.

Bennett said: "I'm available for offers. I'm a free agent and I don't know what the future holds."

More than 1,000 travelling fans celebrated Saturday's 3-1 win at Darlington which confirmed both the club's promotion - after two seasons in League Two - and the title, due to results elsewhwere.

Bennett will receive the trophy at the club's final game of the season against Luton on Saturday and the Irishman is looking forward to it. "We'll have good day," he added.

Like Bennett, on-loan striker Billy Clarke, who scored twice at the Northern Echo arena is not certain to be at Griffin Park next season.

Clarke's goals - a header from David Hunt's 35th minute free kick and a splendid solo effort in the 53rd minute - took his haul to five in seven games since his loan move from Ipswich.

Clarke's Portman Road contract ends in the summer, but he insists he would love the chance to impress new Ipswich boss Roy Keane.

The pair met last week to discuss the striker's future and Clarke said:"I would love to work with him."

Brentford boss Scott doesn't underestimate Clarke's contribution in his third loan away from Ipswich this season.

Scott said: "Billy's a goalscorer and deserves all the credit. He was just what we needed at the right time. I'm very, very grateful to have had him here.It gives Ipswich a decision to make. I think goalscorers can play at any level. They are normally very hard to come across."

It adds up to a busy summer of challenges for Scott, who was delighted to have finally secured promotion after leading the table for three months.

"Everyone has played a part," said Scott. "We're a good club that looks after people. We've even had people working for nothing - Alastair Lane, the fitness coach, and Mick Quinn, the masseur, have been working every day over the last three or four weeks, keeping everyone fit, as well as doing their own jobs."

And already Scott is looking forward to Division One. "Privately, we've spoken about League One and how it's going to be predominately southern-based. So Griffin Park should be getting up to 12,000 fans regularly. It's going to be massive for the club financially and great for the players.

"We're a forward-thinking club. We're looking ahead and are planning to enjoy next season. We can't foresee what is going to happen, but I want us to give a good account of ourselves."

Before that, there will be time for the players to celebrate. Scott added: "We're taking them to Las Vegas. It's been a little carrot for them. "
