Target: Edwin Van der Sar wasn't tested much by Arsenal in the first leg

Mikael Silvestre urges Arsenal to test Edwin Van der Sar at Emirates

1 May 2009

Mikael Silvestre has urged his Arsenal team-mates to put Edwin Van der Sar under greater scrutiny in next week's Champions League semi-final second leg.

The Gunners mustered just one shot on target - a tame first-half effort from Cesc Fabregas - as United secured a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in Wednesday night's first leg.

And former Red Devils defender Silvestre has called on Arsenal to test the ageing Dutch goalkeeper's resolve to a far greater extent when the teams reconvene at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

He said: "We could have conceded more goals, but to go away from Old Trafford just 1-0 down is not a bad result.

"We had good possession, but Edwin was not under as much pressure as he should have been and we have to improve on that by creating more chances at Emirates next week.

"We kept our composure, and when you see the average age of our side, it is not easy.

"The guys proved they have the character and hopefully we can show that again next week."
