New deal for Neil Warnock as he prepares to cut down Sheffield United's bid

Neil Warnock has revealed he has agreed a new contract with Crystal Palace and wants to celebrate by wrecking the promotion dream of old club Sheffield United at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles boss has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, which was due to expire at the end of next season, despite the growing uncertainty over the club's long-term future.

Palace have been up for sale since last summer after owner Simon Jordan grew disillusioned with football but the former mobile phone tycoon has yet to find a buyer.

There had been speculation over Warnock's position and Ipswich placed the Yorkshireman on a list of potential candidates to take over at Portman Road earlier this month.

But Warnock (below), who has been in charge at Selhurst since October 2007, insists he has fallen in love with life in the capital and wants to provide some stability for Palace as they seek new investment.

He said: "There's a lot going off in terms of Simon trying to sell and I think people were worried the club was going to be in a bit of turmoil.

"So I've agreed to have another couple of years here, to take me up to 2011. It's important that the club has stability and, besides, I don't think I've enjoyed myself so much for years. The fans have been incredible and I wish I'd come down earlier."

Warnock will hold talks with Jordan over how many players he is planning to axe this summer after Sunday's game.

The Blades need a better result than Birmingham, who travel to fourth-placed Reading, to snatch the second automatic promotion spot.

But Warnock, who spent seven years in charge at Bramall Lane, insists he is desperate to put one over his boyhood heroes even though that could hand promotion to Reading.

Steve Coppell's Royals are three points behind Birmingham but have a vastly superior goal difference going into their game at Madejski Stadium on Sunday.

Warnock added: "I haven't had a single message from any of my Sheffield United-supporting friends because they know I want to end the season with a victory."
