Paul Collingwood fears cricket's stars will make the Indian Premier League their priority unless the rewards available to Test players are increased significantly.

Collingwood has just returned from two weeks with Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, for which the England batsman earned about £60,000 despite not playing.

Even though Collingwood has an ECB central contract, he knows he could dwarf that salary by playing a handful of seasons in the IPL and the Durham player is worried about the direction international cricket might take as a result.

"My generation saw Test cricket and playing in the Ashes as the ultimate," Collingwood told The Wisden Cricketer Magazine.

"That was my dream. I gave up the one-day captaincy because it was affecting my Test game and I wanted to keep my Test place.

"If you can get 10 times the money for playing a few weeks of Twenty20 than for months of mental torture in the Ashes, then I'm afraid to say some people would take the first option."
