Prospect of hip op scares David Nalbandian
6 May 2009The season could be over for David Nalbandian if the former Wimbledon finalist has hip surgery.
The 27-year-old Argentine, who is No19 in the world, needs painkillers to play and quit the recent Barcelona tournament in pain.
"We are trying to avoid surgery," said Nalbandian, who was a runner-up at SW19 in 2002. "The area still hurts. I will wait until Friday to decide to have an operation. It hurts more and more day after day. I cannot play this way for much longer."
Former world No1 Gustavo Kuerten retired after two bouts of hip surgery and Nalbandian said: "It'd be a similar operation to Gustavo's but less serious. It is a terrible feeling."
