Wayne Rooney: We'll beat Chelsea even if they see off Barcelona

Wayne Rooney has warned Chelsea that even if they beat Barcelona tonight to reach the Champions League Final, Manchester United are confident they can break John Terry's heart again in Rome.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side ensured they will play in the final for the second season in a row as they comfortably beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates yesterday.

Now Rooney expects them to complete the job even if Chelsea, who lost on penalties in Moscow with Terry missing a kick that could have clinched the title, beat Barca to set up a chance for revenge in Rome on 27 May.

The striker said: "I'll be watching the Chelsea game but I don't mind who wins. People say Chelsea will be more dangerous because they'll want revenge but I don't know.

"Barcelona are a brilliant team and Chelsea have a lot of power, so both will give you a tough game. But we can beat either of them."

Rooney says United are inspired by the opportunity to become the first team to successfully defend the Champions League trophy.

"I hope we can make history," he added. "We're so close now and whoever we play in the final it will be a great game.

"We have to concentrate on ourselves and the way we play. And if we do that and play the way we can, we'll be okay."

Rooney also expects his team to add salt to Chelsea's wounds by wrapping up this year's Premier League title long before the Rome showpiece.

He said: "We've got a few days to prepare for Manchester City on Sunday. We want to get the next two games out of the way, get two wins and go to the final as champions."
