Amjad Khan’s on the mend to resume bowling

6 May 2009

Kent and England paceman Amjad Khan could be bowling again in a fortnight after recovering well from his recent knee problems.

The 28-year-old, who was handed a Test debut against West Indies in March, suffered cartilage damage but has been cleared to push ahead with his rehabilitation.

In a statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board said: “Khan visited leading knee consultant Andrew Williams in London last week and he declared himself pleased with how things are progressing.

“Khan will start running at the end of next week and he could be bowling two weeks later.”
The ECB medical team, in harness with fast bowling coach Kevin Shine, will continue to work with Kent on a comeback programme for the seamer.

In Khan's absence, Kent struggled in their County Championship clash against Glamorgan at Canterbury, where they were reduced to just 96 for five, with Rob Key making only 25 on his return from duty for the England Lions against West Indies.

At the Brit Oval, Usman Afzaal and Mark Ramprakash steadied the ship for Surrey with an unbeaten stand of 74 after they were reduced to 31 for two by Middlesex.

County Championship: Div 1 — Trent Bridge: Somerset 57-5 v Notts. Hove: Durham 84-3 v Sussex. Edgbaston: Yorks 100-1 v Warwicks. New Road: Worcs 115-4 v Lancs.
Div 2: Bristol: Leics 70-0 v Gloucs. Canterbury: Kent 96-5 v Glamorgan. Northampton: Essex 89-0 v Northants. Brit Oval: Surrey 105-2 v Middlesex.
