Theo Walcott agrees new deal with Arsenal

Theo Walcott has signed a new deal with Arsenal because he thinks the team can “go very far”.

Arsenal are about to go a fourth season without a trophy but Walcott thinks the future is bright for the club providing they also finalise contract talks with players such as Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.

“The likes of Robin and everyone else, hopefully if they get sorted out, it shows the belief I have got in this team because this team can go very far,” said Walcott.

“Every time I have a warm down I look around the team and see there are some really good players here and I want to be part of it. Hopefully we can be right up there with Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool and have a great challenge for the title next year.”

Arsenal have not revealed details of the deal but Walcott's commitment is a sign that Arsene Wenger will see out his own contract until 2011, given that the winger is likely to have seeked assurances from him.

Walcott added: “It is fantastic to work with the best manager in the world and the stadium is just an unbelievable place to play at. I just want to continue playing my football at this club.”

Wenger, who signed the 20-year-old from Southampton in 2006, said: “Theo has developed extremely well this season and has huge potential for the forthcoming years.”

Great news in this period of gloom after the disappointment this week. Theo is a great player and I am sure he is aware that the only club that could offer him the opportunity to play in one of the greatest competitions in football- the Champions League is Arsenal. He is the future of Arsenal no doubt. Well done. Put your head down and work hard- Ade is not a good example for you though and I am sure TW is intelligent enough to know that. Wish you all the best against Chelsea on Sunday. Come on the Gooners!
