Robinho insists Manchester City can win the Barclays Premier League within the next two years - although doubts have emerged over the future of one of their most promising stars.

Like his team, the Brazilian British-record signing has endured mixed fortunes this season, although City are in contention for a Europe League place next term ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

The club's Middle Eastern owners are certain to dig deep once again this summer as they look to build a side capable of challenging England's established elite. And Robinho believes it will not be long until it is them, and not city rivals United, who are standing on the verge of a title triumph, saying; "I believe I can achieve great things at City - we will become champions over the next two years."

He added: "I was told when I signed for City that the aim was to do that very quickly.

"I would have loved to have won a title this season, but it was not to be because this team is developing. We will be aiming to do it next year."

Michael Johnson was expected to be a massive part of City's, and perhaps England's, future after a fine start to his Eastlands career.

However, a succession of injury problems have limited him to eight appearances this season and manager Mark Hughes admits his future is in the balance.

"It has been a frustration for Michael and for us," he told the News of the World.

"We keep on getting close and then he'll break down again.

"We hope it's not career-threatening because he's a young guy with great potential."
