Richard Gasquet has been provisionally banned from tennis after testing positive for cocaine at a tournament.

The 2007 Wimbledon semi‑finalist admitted failing the test at the Miami Masters in March and the International Tennis Federation have given him an interim penalty before deciding his fate.

“We're now assembling an anti-doping tribunal,” said an ITF spokesman. “The ideal timeframe is within 60 days, but people have to fly in from across the world.”

Gasquet could be given a two‑year ban although any punishment could be limited to three months if the drug was taken out of competition.

The 23-year-old said: “I want to prove my innocence and will explain myself at an appropriate time.”
