Party time: Nemanja Vidic celebrates winning the title but Carlos Tevez could be on his way

Carlos Tevez misses the party as Nemanja Vidic claims player award

Carlos Tevez was the notable absentee at last night's Manchester United player-of-the-year awards dinner as Nemanja Vidic swept the board.

The Argentine looks to be heading out of Old Trafford and confirmed after United had won the title by earning a point against Arsenal on Saturday that he would find it very difficult to stay.

Tevez's absence from last night's dinner will only increase the belief that he is off, with Chelsea and Manchester City interested in signing him.

Vidic was shocked to be named players' and fans' player of the year. "It's a great night," said the Serbian, who moved to Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow three years ago.

"It has been a really good year. I am surprised I got it but I have really enjoyed it."

Vidic, a key figure in United's Premier League triumph and their run to the Champions League final, has also made his presence felt at the other end of the field, scoring some crucial goals.

It was, though, his performances in defence which earned him the accolade from his team-mates and Vidic admitted that it was rare for a defender to take home the awards.

"To be honest I don't have so many individual awards," added the 27-year-old. "That's why I am a bit confused and my speech is not the best. Next time my speech will be a bit better."

Ryan Giggs, the PFA Player of the Year this season, was full of praise for Vidic.

"Consistently throughout the season he's been brilliant," said the Welshman.

Cristiano Ronaldo took the goal of the year award for his 40-yard strike away to Porto in the Champions League.
