Tough choice: Johnny Murtagh, who rode Fame And Glory to victory at Leopardstown last month (left), could partner the colt again in the Epsom Derby

Johnny Murtagh is still weighing up his Derby options

Johnny Murtagh is still undecided about which horse to ride in next month's Epsom Derby - but the signs are it will be Fame And Glory.

The 39-year-old Irishman faces a tough choice between a possible seven runners from the Aidan O'Brien stable as he bids for a fourth win in the mile-and-a-half colts' Classic on 6 June.

But the money has continued to pour in for the unbeaten son of Montjeu after his effortless Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes victory under Irish champion jockey Seamus Heffernan at Leopardstown earlier this month.

Fame And Glory is now as short as 2-1 favourite and bookmaker Stan James has seen significant support for the O'Brien-trained Fame And Glory over the last two days.

Charlie McCann, PR director for Stan James, said: "If money talks, we reckon Johnny Murtagh has chosen to ride Fame And Glory. We have seen significant money for the horse and he's now 2-1 favourite from 5-2."

But Murtagh - who won the Derby with Sinndar (2000), High Chaparral (2002) and Motivator (2005) - could still plump for any of the other O'Brien-trained Derby entrants.

The Ballydoyle handler has a wealth of possible candidates including York Dante Stakes winner Black Bear Island and runner-up Freemantle, 2,000 Guineas fourth Rip Van Winkle, Chester Vase hero Masterofthehorse and runner-up Golden Sword, or Lingfield Derby Trial victor Age Of Aquarius.

Meanwhile, Clive Brittain will leave it late before deciding whether Nashmiah will run in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sunday.

Nashmiah bounced back to form with a Listed race success at York on Friday, with the Newmarket trainer blaming a mouth abscess for his filly's previously disappointing ninth to Ghanaati in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Brittain said: "I've left her in at the Curragh, but I've not made any firm decision as she had a fairly hard race at York.

"She was quite lively in a canter yesterday, but will only go there if she is spot-on. If not, we will wait for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot."

Brittain is also planning a trip to Milan for Sunday's Italian Oaks with Wadaat.

The filly won a Yarmouth maiden in April but failed to show the same sparkle behind Midday in the Lingfield Oaks Trial two weeks ago.

But Brittain said: "She's has an entry in a Listed fillies' race at Goodwood on Thursday, but she could instead go to Italy. She's been working nicely."
