Arsene Wenger fears over Theo Walcott burn-out

26 May 2009

The Football Association are locked in talks with Arsenal over Theo Walcott's potentially gruelling summer schedule with England.

The 20-year-old is in the squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra, while Stuart Pearce is also keen on his inclusion for the Under-21s' European Championships which begin on 15 June.

Arsene Wenger, however, is keen to protect his player and the FA said: "Conversations are still ongoing. We obviously want the best for the player and for the England teams."

Remember it was Wenger who foisted a very young Walcott on England in the first place. He's hardly been a fixture at Arsenal this season, and at 20 shoudl have plenty of energy.

Theo Walcott missed part of the season with injury & playing more games, may restore his confidence. Indeed, I feel that Arsene Wenger is becoming a bit over-protective of the players & needs to relax this a little & toughen then up.

Given Walcott has been out for half the season Wenger's whining looks more than a little suspect.
