In control: referee Massimo Busacca will take charge of the final

Referee pleads with stars to make this best final ever

Referee Massimo Busacca has insisted he will not be intimidated by the reputations of the Manchester United or Barcelona players and urged both teams to be on their best behaviour in tonight's Champions League Final.

The 40-year-old is under pressure to put in a good display after Barca's win over Chelsea in the semi-final was overshadowed by a number of controversial decisions by Tom Henning Ovrebo.

Busacca, who was in charge when United met the Spaniards in the first leg of last season's semi-final, is determined for the game to be remembered for the right reasons.

The Swiss said: "I hope it will be a great game and that football will win because millions of people will watch a match with great respect among players and between players and referees.

"We have the chance to send an important message to everybody watching this game.

"On the pitch you have to respect every player. Obviously they play spectacular football, so we need to protect players like that. However, whenever I blow the whistle, for me it's 'Team A' against 'Team B', 'Player A' against 'Player B'. I respect and try to be respected by everybody without considering their names.

"Since I arrived I have had the chance to get a feel for the Olympic Stadium. It's incredible, it's like a dream. It will

be incredible when it comes true because refereeing a Champions League Final between Barcelona and United is really as good as it gets.
“If I close my eyes I can see how the two teams play. They like to play good football, keeping possession.

“I will have to focus on not just following the ball, but on trying to anticipate a sudden pass in a crucial area of the pitch so that I will be ready to judge a difficult situation.”

Chelsea believe Ovrebo's poor display, particularly his decisions to turn down a number of penalty appeals, is the main reason why they are not involved tonight.

Guus Hiddink admitted today he was still consumed by anger after the Blues were eliminated on an away goal. As the manager approaches the final game of his temporary spell in charge — Saturday's FA Cup Final against Everton — he said: “I am getting over the anger of losing but if you push the right buttons, you will still find a bit of anger.

“I will watch the game tonight but it will be slightly different. Normally, when I watch a game, I don't take any phonecalls. But if my uncle calls me, I will speak to him.”

Meanwhile, the likelihood of Carlo Ancelotti replacing Hiddink this summer has increased after the AC Milan coach admitted he has been studying DVDs of Chelsea's players. In a new book, Ancelotti also revealed details of his meetings with Roman Abramovich last year prior to the appointment of Luiz Felipe Scolari.
