Harry Redknapp police quiz ' a mere formality', say Spurs

2 Jun 2009

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was questioned by police as "a mere formality" as part of the investigation into alleged corruption in English football, the club has said.

It is understood the 62-year-old was questioned by City of London Police officers and tax investigators.

The long-running investigation has focused on a number of transfer deals at Redknapp's former club Portsmouth and at Birmingham.

A spokesman for Spurs said: "It was a mere formality in respect of next stage information relating to a tax issue."

Both City of London Police and HM Revenue and Customs refused to comment.

Last May, Redknapp and his wife were awarded £1,000 damages against the City of London Police after High Court judges held that officers who raided their home as part of the inquiry were acting unlawfully.

Redknapp spoke at the time of his "bitter disappointment" at the way the arrest was handled, saying he believed he had only been arrested because he was a "high-profile" figure.

Well Harry is right; they can't question or arrest Politicians and Bankers; so they turn to working class sports instead.

Lets hope the Police look into Polo and Ballroom dancing.

"I'll tell you this is - it's bloody ridiculous is what it is. Why they are bothering me when there's real criminals mugging old ladies and that, I've no idea. These people need to take a good look at themselves.

Besides, this team only had two points when I got here, they was down to the bare bones, but were doing things like you wouldn't believe in training. Besides, he's under contract at another club, and I don't talk about players at other clubs, for sure"
