Joey Barton hoping to save Newcastle career
5 Jun 2009Joey Barton is eager to stay with Newcastle despite their relegation to the Championship.
The midfielder was told to stay away from training in the wake of their 3-0 defeat at Liverpool late in the season, after he was sent off. He was also understood to have been embroiled in a row with manager Alan Shearer in the dressing room.
But Barton said: "I don't know what is going to happen with the club or with the manager. I'm just looking forward to going back and I intend to stay and help Newcastle back into the Premier League."

Joey Barton should be banned until he has completed an anger management a rehabilitation programme. He is a loose cannon and has consistently shown an inability to control himself. Other players, staff and officials deserve protection from him
