Glen Johnson
Bad business: Chelsea sold Glen Johnson to Portsmouth only two years ago for just £4m

Pompey love is important for Glen Johnson

8 Jun 2009

Glen Johnson has claimed he is unaware of any deal that will see him leave Portsmouth and has admitted he hated his first spell at Chelsea.

Carlo Ancelotti was hoping to complete a deal for the England right-back this week.

Johnson has a release clause in his contract worth £15million and Chelsea are believed to be prepared to meet it, even though they sold him to Portsmouth only two years ago for just £4m. They face competition from Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Johnson said: "I was frustrated every day at Chelsea but Portsmouth brought the love back."

"Well, what people need to remember is that I had the boy at West Ham and I knew he was a talent then for sure. Then I brought him to Portsmouth for something like £4 million when Chelsea decided they didn't want him - and you have to remember they hadn't even heard of right backs before I went there for sure. But you have to remember, they boy is under contract at another club, and I don't like talking about players at other clubs. But if you were to ask me if I, Harry Redknapp, media mouthpiece of Tottenham Hotspur, would like Glenn Johnson here, then of course I would, of course. And all I know is someone's told me the boy just wants to come here and play football, for sure"
