Revenge is not our motivation, say New Zealand

12.06.09

New Zealand deny they will be looking for revenge when they face France in Dunedin.

The All Blacks went into the 2007 Rugby World Cup as favourites but their dreams of lifting the trophy for the first time in 20 years were ended by a shock 20-18 defeat to France in the quarter-finals.

Coaches Graham Henry, Wayne Smith and Steve Hansen held on to their positions in the face of public pressure for their removal.

Ahead of tomorrow's First Test Smith said: "What happened, happened and we moved on from that last year. I can think of losses through my career and if you let them consume you too much you wouldn't coach. This is a new opportunity."

Only seven of the French team and five of the All Blacks played in the 2007 match in Cardiff and Marc Lievremont has since replaced Bernard Laporte as France coach.
