Moving on? David Bentley is not thought to be part of Harry Redknapp's long-term plans

Spurs misfit David Bentley in Aston Villa talks

16 Jun 2009

David Bentley is planning a Tottenham escape this summer and admits he is in talks over a switch to Aston Villa.

The England midfielder made a £16million move from Blackburn last summer but has struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane under Harry Redknapp.

Bentley has also fallen away from Fabio Capello's World Cup plans and hopes a transfer will revive his career. The 24-year-old said: "I'm in talks with Aston Villa at the moment. I really don't want to say much more but we'll see what happens. I'm hopeful of sorting it as soon as possible."

Spurs will accept an offer in the region of £7m for Bentley, but boss Redknapp is also weighing up a swap deal for Ashley Young which would see Jermaine Jenas move to Villa Park too.

Well, beign confident and arrogant are two different things. As a Gooner, I thought his arrogance has led him to where he is. I hope he has learnt his lesson and wish him good luck.

Serves them right for buying an ex-gooner. The funny thing is the amount of money they will have lost, bearing in mind Arsenal had a 50% future sell-on profit clause written into the contract with Blackburn. We could have told Tottenham he was paceless & a nuisance, if only they had asked!

You find it hilarious do you Ted?

Well believe me, we all thought he was a waste of money then and turns out we were right about him, along with 90% of all Tottenham's big money signings of the last decade.

I don't remember you being around when we were deriding your laughable team back then, so put away your poor retort and pipe down.

I find it hilarious that those who didn't so much as utter a peep when Spurs signed Bentley are suddenly world experts about him being a waste of money.

It didn't work out - simple as that, so put away your retro specs and pipe down.

"He always looked amazing in training, but to be honest, my Sandra could have gone out there and done better than him, for sure"

Yeah, come on Bentley, don't forget Tottenham are a Big Club (tm).

Yet ANOTHER colossal waste of money at White Hart Lane. Absolutely incredible just how much you lot waste on rubbish.

Shame hate to see talented players who don't prove their worth.. David as a Spurs fan who should of known what the fans expext of players...You can't blame anyone except for yourself mate. Lived on the goal he scored against Arsenal and that was it. Scored more than Zokora.

There goes a talented footballer, who's career stalled because the big ego stepped in.
I wish Martin O'Neill luck with him and hope he can get a days work or two out of him !!
