Darren Moore backs Derek McInnes for West Brom position

16.06.09

Former West Brom defender Darren Moore believes Derek McInnes would be the ideal candidate to replace Tony Mowbray as manager.

St Johnstone boss McInnes and Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, who has led the club to successive promotions, are believed to be amongst the leading candidates to take over at the Hawthorns after Mowbray's switch to Celtic.

But Moore feels former Albion player McInnes would fit the bill for the Baggies.

Moore said: "Derek would be a top class appointment and I'm not just saying that because I played alongside him.

"I've played with a lot of footballers but Derek was special.

"Darren Ferguson's stock is already high and he's already being talked about with some jobs in the Premier League.

"Derek isn't at that stage but he brings a freshness that players can relate to which may work in his favour over the long term.

"People shouldn't look upon his inexperience as a bad thing - if anything it's the opposite. Derek is a no-nonsense character. He was a great inspiration and I'm sure he will make a great manager."

Former Blackburn manager Paul Ince has already declared his interest in taking over at Albion.
The former England skipper had an unsuccessful spell at Blackburn but before that did well when cutting his managerial teeth at Macclesfield and MK Dons.
