Franck Ribery
On the move: The future of £65m-rated Franck Ribery is becoming more complicated by the hour after Bayern Munich officials issued a series of contradictory statements regarding his possible sale to either Chelsea, Real Madrid or Manchester United

Bayern Munich chiefs clash over Franck Ribery sale talk

17 Jun 2009

Bayern Munich chiefs are at loggerheads after their president Franz Beckenbauer claimed today the club would listen to offers for Chelsea target Franck Ribery.

The £65million-rated midfielder is Bayern's top asset but Beckenbauer revealed the club's advisory board accepted he could be sold.

“We discussed the issue at our last meeting and we all agreed that, if he really wants to leave, then we'll deal with the issue”, he told German magazine Sport Bild.

That contradicted earlier comments from Munich, who then issued a statement spelling out their stance.

They said: “The transfer of a player does not need the approval of the advisory board, according to the constitution of Bayern's board of directors.

“The board of directors have made the overwhelming resolution that Franck Ribery is not for sale.”

Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona have all had bids rejected while Real Madrid have also show an interest.

Real are in the midst of a huge overhaul with Tottenham considering bids for three of their transfer listed players — striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, winger Arjen Robben and left-back Gabriel Heinze.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy met Real sporting director Miguel Pardeza in Madrid on Monday for preliminary talks.

The players would cost a total of £30m but Robben's father Hans insists the winger will not be part of a deal. He said: “Things can change overnight, but one thing is sure: Arjen will certainly not join Tottenham.”

Meanwhile, West Ham forward Freddie Sears has joined Crystal Palace on loan for next season.
