Former Tottenham midfielder Rohan Ricketts has been released by Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.

Ricketts scored four goals in 27 games for the Canadian club last season after joining them in April following his departure from Barnsley.

But with the 26-year-old a peripheral figure in Toronto this year, starting three games and appearing in only 12, the club announced yesterday that it had come to an agreement to terminate his contract.

Ricketts began his career at Arsenal, where he won a pair of Youth Cup titles in 2000 and 2001, before moving across North London to join Tottenham in 2002.

After a bright beginning at Spurs, where he was a regular starter under Glenn Hoddle, Ricketts has struggled to settle, playing in the Championship at Coventry, Wolves, Queen's Park Rangers and Barnsley before joining Toronto.
