Returning Bok: Schalk Burger has regained his fitness and will be back for the Second Test

Schalk Burger is back to give South Africa even more bite

South Africa's pack will be even stronger against the Lions after Schalk Burger was named in the XV for the Second Test.

The flanker missed the First Test victory with a calf injury but is now fit to play in Pretoria and will take the place of Heinrich Brussow.

South Africa's forwards dominated the Lions in the scrums and at lineouts and the presence of the former world player of the year will concern the tourists.

Burger is the only change to the XV but there is a no place on the bench for Ricky Januarie, who drops out of the match-22 despite being defended by the coach in the wake of the First Test.

Peter de Villiers was slated for making a string of second-half substitutions, which included bringing on Januarie for Fourie du Preez.

The first non-white to coach the Springboks, De Villiers suggested that criticism directed at black scrum-half Januarie was evidence of lingering racism in South African rugby.

"Ricky made one blunder but so did a few other players, too," said the coach. "What I've learned in South Africa is that if you take your car to a garage where the owner is a black man and he messes up then you'll never go back to that garage again. If the owner's a white man you say, 'ah, he made a mistake', and you go back. And that is how we live our life in this country, some people."

Victory for the Springboks will seal the three-Test series and De Villiers is confident his men will prevail.

"We believe in the abilities of our players and we are confident they will take things up a few notches on Saturday," said de Villiers. "We are a squad of 22 focused on a common objective, which is to go out and win a Test series against a very good Lions team.

"We know that we will be faced by a team that will be playing to level the series. We must make sure we are more than equal to the task."
