Yuri Zhirkov's closing in on Chelsea move

24 Jun 2009

Chelsea are expected to complete the £18million signing of Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow by the end of next week.

The Russia wing-back is believed to have been assured of a regular place in the Blues squad by owner Roman Abramovich.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to wait for a tribunal to discover how much they must pay Manchester City for striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 19-year-old is out of contract next month but, as he is under 24, the Blues must pay compensation that could be in the region of £5m.
