Cesc Fabregas: 'Lack of silverware eats away at me'
25.06.09
Cesc Fabregas has cast his future at Arsenal into more doubt by criticising the club's failure to win any silverware since 2005.
The Gunners captain contrasted his own frustrations at Emirates Stadium with Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to quit Manchester United because he had nothing left to win.
"The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most," Fabregas said.
"Cristiano said he's leaving United because he had nothing else to win. For me it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence."
Fabregas also revealed how Arsenal's barren run has left morale at rock bottom. "When you don't win, everyone is in a bad mood," he said.
"For four years now, we've needed a title to regain our belief."
It got worse for Fabregas last night as he played in Spain's shock 2-0 Confederations Cup defeat to USA. Fulham's Clint Dempsey scored to end Spain's 15-game winning streak.

Fabregas was very complementary about Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson last season.
Things are very quiet...I would not be surprised if he wears the red of Manchester United next season. He would bring just what they need in midfield.
There are very good relations between the two clubs both off and on the field these days!
£45Million would prise him away.

A. Messina, Malta: Arsenal did not "make" Fabregas "somebody"; it was always there.
Browny: get over it, mate. This is the Real (oops, no pun intended there)world and just like every other club this sort of thing happens from time to time, even the "great" Manchester United have buckled under at long last to Ronaldo wanting away. Ultimately, they are all mercenaries and loyalty comes with a fat pay cheque.

Maybe Arsenal should make an effort to win the 'worthless' Carling Cup and give the cleaning lady something to polish (apart from the girls' stuff!)
"It seems every year we have a problem with an overseas player destabilising things" ..... that's probably because apart from Walcott you've only GOT overseas players, doh ;O)

obviously i'd rather fabregas didn't run the club down in public but it's right to say not winning prizes is painful. arsenal don't have a divine right to win but we're well used to it and it's nasty having to watch disgusting teams like chelsea celebrate paying for trophies while we try to play for them. it's a moral issue for sure but that doesn't mean we're happy to be doing worse than circus acts like manchester united and liverpool every year. i understand where fabregas is coming from but sadly for me i can't up and change my club on a whim!

Staying with the goners wont improve the situation.

It seems every year we have a problem with an overseas player destabilising things. Lets put it this way, if Hleb and Flamini,(who have hardly gone on to better things), had stayed put and Adebayor had kept quiet and not compared himself to Henry while lauding Milan we could have entered last season far more stable and then who knows. His overseas team-mates and friends set this great club back a year and if they hadn't we may have won something, so don't blame Arsenal football club. This is the modern footballer and their mentality. For me what Madrid is doing is not admirable but he is looking at it and thinking they set a great example while Arsnal do things wrong. It is abhorrent in the current economic climate what they are spending on transfers and wages. They are looking for a worldwide fan base when a lot of the world is in poverty. This is not a club to be admired and the worlds fans should let them know this. People in Africa, the middle East and Far East should turn their back on these clubs. Imagine if that money was put to an overseas charity rather than to a footballer who thinks £200k pw is too little. If Fabregas remains next year he must realsie these statements can be extremely damaging and he therefore becomes part of the problem rather than part of the solution. A team with Eduardo, Arshavin, RVP, Walcott, Nasri, Rosicky, Fabregas, Gallas, Toure, Clichy, Sagne should not be described as impotent. I was looking forward to a serious challenge till this.

Rather dull comments from Cesc Farbregas,hw along with others are too blame for the Gooners failure too win anything, not Wenger.these pampered players need to look at themselves not others before mouthing off, this guy is good but nowhere near thew class of Xavi and Iniesta,Alonso is a far better passer of a ball.
Arsenal should get what they can,but he is not worth 30 million, for what he does and the amount he has played that is way over the odds.
Mind you he is better than anything else the Gooners have got in midfield and is one of a few guys who are worth something,as i doubt many would pay 20 mil for that huge waste of space Adebayor, whio for me is a disgrace in an Arsenal shirt..With Arshavin and RvP the goons have 2 guys who will show that adebyebyeor is not missed

Im bored by comments like this from Fabregas. Surely, he & other whinging Arsenal players accept reponsibility for not winning the trophies he craves. I have always thought Fabregas is overrated, he is slow & small in stature. Sure he can pass, but at Arsenal everything is played through him, which makes it somewhat easier to look impressive. He can follow in the footsteps of numerous players who have left Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, only to make little impression elsewhere. The latest Hleb & Flaminin left Arsenal last season, have ended up playing little 1st team football & hardly made the headlines. I would like to see Melo signed & play him alongside Abu Diaby in central midfield with back up provided by the rapidly improving Song & Denilsen. We also have Ramsey & hopefully fit again Rosicky who can play central midfield roles. Incidentally, Arsenal's statistics last year were marginally better in matches without Fabregas, than with him, whoich tells its own story.

He had a poor season last year, if he wants to leave let him go, £30m will do nicely.

Will he leave the Spanish national team if they don't win the World Cup then?
A good job he wasn't playing his international football in the more than four decades before they won the European Cup - he'd have been really upset then!
- John, London
Fabregas is away playing for Spain, so why not talk about the Spanish national team instead of talking about of what happened last year at Arsenal. Has Fabregas forgotten that he was not playing for a long time during the year because he made a stupid challenge he should not have made.
Cesc. Have a bit of respect for the club that made you somebody.Stop moaning and start showing more entusiasm.
