Fame And Glory cut for Arc de Triomphe after Derby demolition

Simon Milham
29 Jun 2009

Fame and Glory is now the 4-1 joint-favourite from 8-1 with Stan James for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on 4 October after an impressive victory in yesterday's Irish Derby, writes Simon Milham.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old heads the market with 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby winner Sea The Stars, who is set to run in Saturday's Coral-Eclipse at Sandown after missing the Curragh Classic because of soft ground.

Fame And Glory has also been halved to 3-1 for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on 25 July.

Meanwhile, bookies were not so impressed by Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Spanish Moon, but cut Sir Michael Stoute's runner to 33-1 (from 66) for the Arc.

Stoute said: "He is in the Arc de Triomphe and that race will certainly be taken into consideration later in the year."

Mick Channon's beaten favourite Youmzain, who was back in third, was pushed out to 25-1 for the mile-and-a-half Group 1 race.
