William Gallas
Friends in high places: William Gallas is a target for his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, now in charge of Inter Milan

Jose Mourinho's £5m raid to be reunited with William Gallas

2 Jul 2009

Inter Milan are considering offering £5million for William Gallas as he enters the final year of his contract.

The 31-year-old has not yet discussed a new deal with Arsenal and Inter coach Jose Mourinho is thought to be confident of luring the Frenchman, given the healthy relationship the pair enjoyed at Chelsea.

Mourinho is also keen on signing Ricardo Carvalho from his former club but as talks continue to stall over a deal involving Portuguese midfielder Deco, Gallas is becoming an increasingly tempting alternative.

Gallas has one year remaining on his £80,000-a-week deal after a torrid season in which he was stripped of the captaincy amid rumours of dressing room unrest.

Although Gallas improved after he lost his captaincy £5m would go towards buying Yaya Toure, with Vermaelen partning
Kolo and Yaya a holding midfield player.

I agree with Rob, £5M for an injury-prone player well past his best and as disruptive as he has been would be a right result and in keeping with the great Wenger's policy of moving on has-beens. Maybe we could create a bidding war between the socalled special one and football's 'Arfur Daley' down at the sad Lane!

ooops forgot we can sell Senderos as well, to fund the purchase of two centre halves.

Arsenal could desperately do with with a pair of commanding centre-halves. Gallas has been a disruptive influence since his arrival & if we can get £5m for him, so be it. I would also sell Toure to Man City for the reported £14m & let the unimpressive Sylvestre depart as well. We have the up & coming Djourou & the newly acquired Vermaelen. If we could bring in a pair of tall commanding centre halves in, it would be to Arsenal's benefit. Bruno Alves from Porto & Chellini from Juventus would be great acquisitions, if possible. Failing which we have been linked with a couple of German players.
