Rugby league bosses hope to stage at least major one game from the 2013 World Cup in London at either Wembley or the Olympic Stadium.

The Rugby Football League were last week confirmed as hosts for 2013 and are hoping to attract bids from the two London grounds and Old Trafford for the final.

Richard Lewis, the RFL's chairman, said: "We will be using our heartlands in the north and playing to our strengths, but we'll also be using other stadiums.

"We know that it's going to be extremely competitive in terms of which stadiums we use."

Lewis says use of the Olympic Stadium would depend on what happens to it after the Games as original plans to reduce its capacity from 80,000 to 25,000 may be revised in the light of England's 2018 football World Cup bid.

He added: "If it is decommissioned into a smaller size then my understanding is that it will be a building site."
