Roddick joins elite 500 club of tennis
7 Aug 2009Andy Roddick won the 500th match of his career as he beat Sam Querry 7-6, 6-4 in the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.
The American is the 36th player and the fourth active one to reach the milestone, joining Roger Federer, Carlos Moya and Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who fell to No2 seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina 4-6, 63, 7-6 in Washington.
Despite his victory, the 26-year-old had only three aces in the match and admitted: "I served badly tonight. It's almost gratifying because it's a match I wouldn't have won."
