Andy Murray is cool after rankings race hots up

11.08.09

Andy Murray says the prospect he could rise to No2 in the world rankings at the Montreal Masters this week will not be playing on his mind when he opens his campaign tonight.

The Briton will usurp the returning Rafael Nadal in the standings if he wins the tournament.

Murray, having been given a firstround bye, plays France's Jeremy Chardy in his first match since Wimbledon.

He said: "It really doesn't feel any different to me but I'm in a good position to challenge for the No2 ranking.

"I'll have to play well. I have a tricky draw but I would love to get the ranking.

"There is still a lot of tennis to be played before I could get there."

Nadal has spent two-and-a-half months out of the game with knee tendinitis.
