On course: Fleeting Spirit has been working well on the gallops ahead of the Haydock Sprint Cup

Sparkling Spirit has Jeremy Noseda in bullish mood

Jeremy Noseda is exuding confidence as Fleeting Spirit continues to shine in her preparation for the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup a week on Saturday.

The filly was runner-up in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and won Newmarket's July Cup on her latest start.

However, the filly subsequently suffered a setback which forced her to be withdrawn from the Nunthorpe Stakes at York, a race for which she was ante-post favourite.

Noseda said: "We have been delighted with her. We galloped her on Monday and that was the first piece of work she's had since the setback. She's bang on course for Haydock and touch wood everything stays on schedule."

Fleeting Spirit is 3-1 favourite for the six-furlong contest with Stan James and Bet365 but with the forecast unsettled over the next 10 days, Noseda urged a note of caution.

He said: "The only thing that would rule her out would be soft ground. In fact, anything other than good or faster ground will mean she won't go there."

Noseda is also hopeful that his Royal Hunt Cup winner Forgotten Voice, who flopped in Group 3 company behind Palavicini at York last time, will regain the form that saw him finish fourth to Rip Van Winkle in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood previously.

However, he has ruled out the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot next month.

"There was no pace in the race at York and he wouldn't have won over any distance," said the trainer. "As for the QE II, I'm almost embarrassed he has an entry. He will probably run in a Listed race on the same Sprint Cup card."

Sprint Cup (Stan James): 3-1 Fleeting Spirit, 5 King's Apostle, 11-2 High Standing, 6 Finjaan, 8 Main Aim, 14 Art Connoisseur, 16 J J The Jet Plane, 20 bar.
