Biding his time: Alex Goode may have to wait another season before he can get his hands on the Saracens No10 jersey

England on to a Goode thing, says Glen Jackson

Glen Jackson has predicted England greatness for club-mate Alex Goode once the youngster settles into the No10 role.

The Saracens fly-half is urging England manager Martin Johnson to keep a close eye on the 21-year-old, who is currently being played by Sarries at full-back.

Goode has all the qualities necessary to develop into an all-encompassing fly-half and Jackson, 33, is in no doubt about the youngster's rich potential.

He said: "Alex is going to be a great player for England for many years, I can assure you, and we at Saracens are very lucky to have him.

"He's an outstanding individual. It's great that he's being given a chance at full-back, a position you can grow into, and he'll learn to play there. The sooner he becomes involved with England, the better. His kicking and punting is very good and he has skills and speed. I can't speak highly enough of him."

Goode may have to wait another season before he can get his hands on the Saracens No10 jersey, though.

The evergreen Jackson has started the new Guinness Premiership season on fire, scoring a try on his way to bagging 13 points in a man-of-the-match display in Sarries' 18-14 victory over London Irish at Twickenham last weekend.

Jackson is under pressure for his place from both Goode and summer signing Derick Hougaard but boss Brendan Venter insists he will not be dropping Jackson, given the New Zealander's current form. Having stolen the show at HQ, Jackson now has another chance to impress on a big stage, with his side taking on Northampton at Wembley on Saturday.

A bumper crowd at the home of English football should ensure attendance figures for Sarries' opening two matches pass the 100,000 mark.

Jackson said: "It's great that in my last year in rugby, I'm getting to play at Twickenham and Wembley, where hopefully we can get 45,000 people coming to watch us.

"Being the first rugby union club to play at Wembley is an amazing feeling. It will be a privilege to be part of it. And it's nice to know that at 33, I've still got it in me to play good rugby."
